Proof that Rain Will Not Ruin Your Wedding Day

Romantic Rainy Wedding at the Barn at Cedar Hill

Carley and Taylor are married! They tied the knot in a romantic rainy wedding day at the Barn at Cedar Hill in Salisbury, NC. Carley and Taylor are definitely the “IT” couple in their friend group. People look up to them because they’re so in love and because of how well they serve each other. But I have to tell you, I look up to them now too. Their wedding day turned out to be SO rainy – but they didn’t let it stop them or their beautiful wedding day at the Barn at Cedar Hill. They had the best attitudes all day long and really focused on the fact that they were getting married… no matter what the weather did.

Rainy Wedding at the Barn at Cedar Hill

With the weather changing quickly, Carley and Taylor had to adjust some of the plans for their wedding day. The Barn at Cedar Hill is a gorgeous venue and worked so hard to make this beautiful day happen, even with all the changes. Carley and Taylor embraced all of the changes with a great mindset and positive attitude. We decided to hold their first looks outside the barn, in a small space we found that was dry. Carley and Taylor were amazing - trusting us to make their special moments happen, no matter what. I absolutely loved her bridesmaids first look - the girls stood outside the barn door in their light green dresses while Carley posed in the barn. It was a super fun spin on their first look!

While we pivoted to hold their ceremony inside, Carley and Taylor were willing to brave the elements and venture outside with me for portraits. They hugged tightly under the umbrella and we used some off camera flash to bring drama to their portraits. I'm so glad that we were able to play around in the rain before their reception. Once the space was flipped again, it was time to party! Carley and Taylor kept things simple with white and green florals and leaves filling the rustic barn. It was perfect!!

Carley and Taylor’s wedding day made me think about what I would tell couples if it rains on their wedding day (or some other major weather change happens!).

Here’s the wisdom I would pass on if it rains on your wedding day.

1. Lean into it.

Grab some clear umbrellas and don’t let it ruin your day. Rainy wedding portraits under an umbrella can be SO romantic and a great option for outdoor portraits.

2. Accept it and move on.

I know this one is easier said than done, but try not to let the changes ruin your day. Work hard to accept that this is how your day will be and enjoy your wedding for what it is. At the end of the day, you’ll still be married to your favorite person!

3. Bring a change of shoes.

It’s a great idea to have a change of shoes anyway – especially if you have heels – but know that they’ll get extra dirty on a rainy wedding day from mud and other messes. Plan to have a second clean pair of shoes for your reception!

4. Don’t worry about the dirt.

Rainy wedding days mean more mud. That’s just how it works. Try not to sweat it too much. You’re going to have your wedding dress cleaned when all is said and done (most likely), so it’ll get cleaned up! Make the memories and worry about the mess later.

Congratulations again, Carley and Taylor! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your beautiful rainy wedding at the Barn at Cedar Hill. It was so fun to play and celebrate you two!
